This is a selfie I took on an overnighter in August 2020; note the dirt, the tan and the contentment!
Hello there! My name is Devan Walsh, hiker extraordinaire…well… sort of.
Hiking is my passion, but I’m not quite sure what it takes to be called a professional; at least I don’t consider myself to be one, anyway. I just consider myself an average outdoor enthusiast in her mid-twenties with the urge to explore the beautiful state of Colorado as much as possible. I really like dirt and the act of getting dirty. Like a lot. I enjoy running, biking, backpacking, and the occasional canoe trip in the summer (I’m obsessed with anything that floats); and in the winter I’m a little nuts for snowshoeing and slipping my way down icy trails in the chilly temps. When I’m not on the trails I like to write, and to create, to cook delicious vegan food, and to maintain my personal in-home jungle, and of course cater to my cat’s every need.
I am also passionate about conservation and keeping our world green, and I strive to do my part and be as eco-conscious as I can. Where would we hike if the planet was lost? (Jk don’t worry, hiking isn’t the only reason I’m passionate about sustainability, but it’s super relevant to this blog.) And no, unfortunately I’m not a perfect zero-waster, but I work towards sustainable goals every day and every chance that I can. I’m a firm believer that hikers are responsible for the land we use, and that it’s a privilege to be surrounded by beauty, so packing out the trash of not only ourselves but others is very much valued and definitely not weird!
